Coffs Harbour

The area surrounding Coffs Harbour has banana palms which led to the creation of Iconic Big Thing, the Big Banana. Set on the southern edge of the Solitary Islands Marine Park, a haven for whales, turtles and grey nurse sharks, the town has great beaches and a mild climate. This idyllic combination has made it one of the most popular vacation spots along the coast along with the Mid North Coast towns of Bellingen, Macksville, Mambucca Heads, Sawtell, Urunga, Woolgoolga and Dorrigo, home to the Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival, and the Dorrigo National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Walk above the rainforest canopy to the Skywalk lookout for breathtaking views. Coffs is also a convenient halfway point on the 1,000-km (620-mile) journey between Sydney and Brisbane.
